Sutter Women's Services
The first step in treatment is locating and defining the exact condition. Women's Services covers the entire spectrum of health conditions, with appropriate diagnostic tools available for each.
Pregnancy
From routine ultrasound to advanced genetic testing, Sutter offers the tools physicians need to determine the health of both mother and child. Tools available include:
- Chorionic villus sampling (CVS)
- Amniocentesis
- Fetal biophysical profile - a comprehensive ultrasound test performed between 18 and 28 weeks to test for breathing movement, body movement, tone, amniotic fluid volume, and fetal heart rate.
- Fetal ultrasound, including level II and 3-D ultrasound
- Fetal (percutaneous umbilical)blood sampling (PUBS)- a test to detect genetic and other problems done by extracting blood through a needle inserted through the mother's abdomen into the umbilical cord.
- Doppler flow analysis - an ultrasound test that measures the flow of blood through a blood vessel. The test could be used to measure blood flow in the umbilical cord or the baby's brain or heart.

Breast Health
Tools for early diagnosis of breast cancer are available the Breast Health Center in Roseville and through the Breast Health Services of Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento. Tools available include:
- Breast health history and risk assessment
- Instruction in breast self-exam
- Mammogram
- Stereotactic Core Biopsy
- Ultrasound Guided Core Needle Biopsy
- Mammoscintography - an imaging test using a tracing element and special camera to detect breast cancers
- Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
Menopause and Osteoporosis
To help ensure a smooth transition through menopause and beyond, diagnostic tools provide physicians with a clear look at the causes of discomfort and potential complications, including osteoporosis. Such tools include:
- Bone Density Testing
- Blood testing
- Colposcopy
- Pelviscopy/
Laparoscopy
Urogynecologic Conditions
Women experiencing problems related to incontinence or voiding difficulties have access to advanced diagnostic tools that include:
- Urine Testing
- Blood Testing
- Complex Multichannel Pressure Studies
- Video-Urodynamics.
- Cystoscopy/Urethroscopy
- Ultrasound
- Dynamic Fluoroscopy
- Intravenous Pyelography (IVP)
- Electrodiagnostic Testing
- Anal Mamometry
In conjunction with Sutter Cancer Center, Women's Services provides complete diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers. Tools available for diagnosis include:
- PAP test evaluations
- Ultrasound
- CT Scan

- Positron Emission Tomography
- Colposcopy
- Genetic counseling for patients at risk of familial cancers
- Loop Electrocautery
- Excision procedure
