A kidney, pancreas, or heart for transplantation comes from someone who donates an organ upon his or her death. Donated kidneys can come from one of three sources: living donors who are relatives, living donors who are not related, and someone who donates a kidney upon his or her death. Donated hearts come from someone who donates a heart upon his or her death. All of these options should be explored if you are considering a kidney transplant.
