Sutter Transplant Services makes it as easy as possible for physicians to refer patients for heart transplants. The following criteria are used as a basis for selection into the program:

  • Presence of irreversible heart disease and life expectancy of less than six to 12 months with no effective medical or surgical alternatives to transplantation

  • No absolute age criteria (determination based on accompanying medical conditions)

  • Absence of active hepatitis or hepatitis B surface antigen positive

  • Absence of active infections

  • Absence of cancer within the past two years (non-melanotic skin cancer excluded)

  • Absence of HIV, AIDS, and/or AIDS-Related Complex
To refer a patient to the program or to discuss a patient with our transplant team, please call us at (916) 733-8133 or (800) 556-8133 or email us. We are also happy to send you further information on the program. You may also access our Patient Registration and Referral Intake form {Acrobat PDF}.
