    Marion Leff, M.D., Program Director | Back to Top

    With 17 years private practice experience prior to joining the original faculty, Dr. Leff served as Associate Director of the Sacramento track before assuming the directorship in July 2000. She received her M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia and then came to the West Coast for Family Medicine residency at UC Davis. Committed to the Sacramento region, she is interested in training physicians to savor Family Medicine's diversity and to find their own niche in today's environment. She continues to be delighted and nurtured by her relationships with patients and residents.

    Dr. Gambrill attended medical school at the University of California at San Francisco, and completed residency training in Family Medicine at Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Los Angeles. After five years in private practice, he spent 10 years with UCLA affiliated teaching faculty at the Ventura County Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program. Sutter Health's forward-looking approach to medicine attracted Dr. Gambrill to join Sutter's Sacramento Family Medicine Residency Program faculty in 1996.

    Raised in Davis, California, Dr. Smith-Maclean attended medical school at Michigan State University and returned to the Sacramento area to complete her Family Medicine residency training at the UC Davis Medical Center. She then worked in a private practice in Davis and Dixon, California, prior to joining Sutter West Medical Group. A founding faculty member, Dr. Smith-Maclean works closely with the Davis Track residents, and is the site director of the Davis Track. Outside of medicine she enjoys swimming, hiking, camping, reading and spending time with her family.

    Sharon Blosk

    Originally from the east coast, after doing her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Dr. Blosk moved to Gothenburg, Sweden, where she graduated from the University of Gothenburg Medical School. She completed her internship at UC Davis Medical Center and her residency in Family Medicine at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, California. Outside of medicine, she enjoys cooking, hiking, skiing, and spending time with her children.

    Prior to joining the faculty in late 2003, Dr. Greer practiced family medicine and was medical director of the Carolyn Downs Family Medicine Center in Seattle. Dr. Greer's medical training began at the University of California, San Francisco, and she completed her residency at the Providence Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Greer's special interests include OB and care of the underserved. In her time away from medicine she enjoys running, spending time with her family, and home remodeling and decorating projects.

    Dr. Hitzeman grew up on the San Francisco peninsula. He attended college at University of California at Davis, and later medical school at the University of California at Los Angeles. He completed his residency at Sutter Health Family Medicine Residency Program in Sacramento, and is currently a faculty member within the same program. His interests include international health, procedural skills, teaching, creative writing, and various outdoors activities.

    Dr. Hitzeman has been the medical director of Clinica Tepati - a local student-run free clinic for the indigent Latino population - since 2006.

    After serving in the Air Force for eleven years and teaching at two different Air Force family medicine residency programs, Dr. Jones decided it was time to deepen her roots in the Sacramento area and enthusiastically joined the Sutter Health Family Medicine Residency Program in the fall of 2007. She completed medical school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and residency at Malcolm Grow Medical Center, part of the National Capitol Consortium. She has a zest for teaching and lifelong learning and enjoyed great professional enrichment through the Northern California Faculty Development Fellowship Program, sponsored by the University of California, San Francisco. She considers it a privilege to be a family physician and truly treasures the myriad opportunities and relationships found with the scope of family medicine. Outside of medicine, she spends her time running, biking, serving within the community, and making meaningful memories with family and friends.

    Meda Rebecca

    Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Rebecca received her Ph. D. in psychology from the University of Michigan. Dr. Rebecca taught undergraduate and graduate psychology for many years, specializing in life-span developmental psychology and cross-cultural psychology. Dr. Rebecca received her clinical training at UC Davis Medical Center, Departments of Family and Community Medicine and Pediatrics (Child Protection Center). Before joining Sutter's Family Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Rebecca worked at Kaiser Permanente as a Behavior Medicine Specialist in Adult Medicine and Pediatrics and on the child team in the Department of Psychiatry. Working with the Family Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Rebecca has witnessed how people's stories impact and enrich the practice of medicine. She is drawn to the complexity offered by an integrated way of practicing medicine and consults with physicians regarding how to do this in contemporary medicine. Dr. Rebecca enjoys traveling, being outdoors, people's stories and learning new things.

    Bill Zepf, M.D.

    Dr. Zepf completed medical school and Family Medicine residency training at University of California at San Diego. Clinical experiences have included a chief residency year, rural practice at a migrant farm workers' clinic, a faculty development/medical editing fellowship at Georgetown University Family Medicine and over a decade of medical writing and editing for the American Family Physician journal. Dr. Zepf is now in his second decade as a Family Medicine teacher. As a faculty member for the Davis track, he enjoys the close working relationships and camaraderie of a smaller hospital and medical staff.
