Sutter Health is a family of not-for-profit hospitals, physician organizations and other medical services that share resources and expertise to advance health care quality. Serving more than 100 communities in Northern California, Sutter Health is a regional leader in cardiac care, cancer treatment, orthopedics, obstetrics, pediatrics, and newborn intensive care, and is a pioneer in advanced patient safety technology.
Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento (SMCS) has two acute care hospitals -- Sutter General and Sutter Memorial -- and has provided health care to the residents of Sacramento since 1923. SMCS also includes Sutter Center for Psychiatry which has provided psychiatric, mental health, and chemical dependency services since 1958. With 772 licensed beds, SMCS is not-for-profit and fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
Sutter Davis Hospital is a not-for-profit, 48-bed acute care hospital with a strong outpatient focus. The present facility, a 94,000-square-foot building that anchors a 20-acre medical campus, opened in 1994 after a several year planning process that included extensive employee and community involvement. The original building was established in 1968 as a for-profit hospital owned by physicians. Sutter Health purchased the hospital in 1981 to ensure residents of Yolo County would continue to have quality medical care into the future. Sutter Davis Hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
In March 2008 Sutter Davis Hospital was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson Heathcare for 2007.
Exciting Sutter Developments
Expansion
The Sutter Health network of physicians and not-for-profit hospitals plans to invest more than $5.7 billion over ten years to rebuild, replace and expand much of Northern California’s health care infrastructure. Local plans include:
- Construction of a new women’s and children’s hospital campus in downtown Sacramento, which will include the latest labor and delivery services as well as an update of the neonatal and pediatric ICU.
- Remodeling the Sutter General Hospital campus to feature one entire floor dedicated to cardiovascular and transplant services as well as buildings to house ancillary services and physician offices.
