Sutter Institute for Medical Research
A strong part of our mission is to "foster and facilitate research, innovation, and education." With that goal in mind, SIMR offers a grants program for funding meritorious research projects initiated by Sutter investigators. Funds to finance these grants come from donations and other philanthropic gifts made to Sutter Medical Center Foundation. Since 1989, Sutter has funded 34 research projects totaling more than 1 million dollars.
Sutter physicians and employees can apply for a SIMR grant to cover the cost of conducting a research project. SIMR assists investigators in designing, developing and submitting these grant proposals. To apply for a grant, download the forms below.
After the application is submitted, 2 members of the SIMR Research Committee review the protocol. Researchers with protcols that pass the initial review are asked to present the proposal at one of the quarterly meetings where the committee votes on whether or not to provide funding for the project. The dates of the 2009 meetings and deadlines for submission are listed here.
If you plan to apply for a grant, it is important that you contact Carol Parise, Ph.D at (916) 453-5898 ext 8, or email at parisec@sutterhealth.org. Only 3 proposals can be reviewed at a meeting so it is important to know how many applications are expected in order to make accomodations.
