    Complex Fractures
    Sutter Orthopaedic Institute

Serious trauma to the skeletal system can involve ligaments, tendons, joints and multiple bones, and can include fractures caused from crushing, twisting, gun shots and other severe impact. Such extensive or intricate fractures require highly specialized surgical care at the time of injury and may require subsequent treatment, as well. Because of the Level II Trauma Center at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Sutter Orthopedic Institute includes surgeons who specialize in orthopedic trauma and complex fractures. As members of the Orthopedic Trauma Association, these subspecialty orthopedic surgeons provide care within the Trauma Center and also to patients referred by other orthopedic surgeons and physicians throughout the region. Conditions commonly treated include fractures surrounding joints, pelvis and hipbone socket fractures, fractures that fail to heal or heal improperly, post-traumatic deformities, and other trauma-related orthopedic conditions.

Sutter physician specialists also include pediatric orthopedic surgeons, hand surgeons, neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons who specialize in spine surgery and other surgeons with specialized surgical expertise. In addition to surgical treatment, Sutter facilities offer advanced diagnostic imaging tools that allow doctors to identify the location and extent of damage. Following surgery, Sutter’s integrated care includes rehabilitation through a dozen conveniently located Sutter Health Outpatient Rehabilitation Centers.

For patients requiring extensive or longer inpatient rehabilitation care, Sutter provides an inpatient rehabilitation unit for acute rehabilitation at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital and a skilled nursing rehabilitation facility at Sutter Oaks Midtown. Many orthopedic patients also receive rehabilitation care at home through rehabilitation therapy provided by Sutter Visiting Nurses Association.

Across all needs and through all stages of care, Sutter provides outstanding diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitation services to ensure injured patient achieve the greatest success possible.
