Unlike traditional open-surgical methods, laparoscopic and microsurgical procedures are done through very small incisions, with precision micro-instruments. Tiny cameras allow surgeons to perform procedures viewing a magnified image on a television monitor, eliminating the need to open the area for viewing. Though not ideal for all surgeries, these techniques can diminish the risk of damage to other tissues and decrease recovery time, scarring and complications.
