Meditation
Sutter Center for Integrative Health
Along with being a means for calming the mind, meditation is also considered a form of mental therapy. Although there are many forms of meditation, such as transcendental, Zen, and mindfulness, they all have in common the calming of the mind. This can provide a reversal of our everyday habit of allowing ourselves to be controlled by our thoughts and emotions.
Meditation has been used by spiritual practitioners in the East for thousands of years, and is becoming increasingly popular in the Western world. It can be used to help in the management of stress and chronic pain, and has been employed, along with other forms of therapy, in the treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
