    Still X-rays and Fluoroscopy

Though X-ray technology has been around for several decades, it remains the most commonly used form of diagnostic imaging and an excellent tool for viewing internal body structures. X-rays include still shots of parts of the body and motion images, or fluoroscopy.

An X-ray is a noninvasive medical test that exposes parts of the body to a small dose of radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Many of our sites offer digital X-rays, which provide immediate image preview and an overall enhanced image.

In many instances, X-ray technology is all your doctor will need to make a diagnosis, but the images it produces are not as clear as those captured with a CT scan or MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging. For that reason, your doctor may order an X-ray first and follow up with additional diagnostic imaging testing.

If you’ve been referred for an X-ray, we encourage you to read up on the test in our Health Information Library. The library contains in-depth information on several types of fluoroscopy and still X-rays, including the following:

    Still X-rays
    Abdominal X-Ray
    Chest X-Ray
    Extremity X-Ray
    Facial X-Ray
    Mammogram
    Skull X-Ray
    Spinal X-Ray
    Fluoroscopy
    Arthrogram (Joint X-Ray)
    Barium Enema
    Hysterosalpingogram
    Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)
