Ultrasound

Ultrasound gives doctors a simple, safe and painless diagnostic tool that uses high-frequency sound waves and their echoes to create real-time images of tissue, muscles, tendons, organs and blood flow. Also called a sonogram, an ultrasound test allows doctors to create images of body functions in motion, including visualizing babies moving in their mother’s wombs.
Our Health Information Library offers in-depth information on the various types of ultrasound tests, including why they’re done, how to prepare, what to expect and what the test results will show. The information is broken out by types of scans and areas of the body:
Abdominal Ultrasound
Breast Ultrasound
Cranial Ultrasound
Doppler Ultrasound
Fetal Ultrasound
Pelvic Ultrasound
Testicular Ultrasound
Thyroid and Parathyroid Ultrasound
In addition to diagnostic testing, ultrasound technology is also used as a guide for interventional radiology procedures.
