Electrophysiology (EP) Lab
Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute
The Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute electrophysiology (EP) lab, located at Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, is dedicated to advanced technological procedures that are used to study the heart's electrical function. The electrophysiologist, a cardiologist who specializes in the electrical system of the heart, can locate sites inside the heart that may be causing abnormal heart rhythms, also known as arrhythmias. The electophysiologist work with a highly skilled team of nurses and technologists to study and treat arrhythmias. Based on the location of the arrhythmia, a range of treatment options are available, all of which are performed in the EP lab. Those treatment options include ablation and pacemaker and ICD (Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator) implantation.
