The Sutter Diabetes Care Center uses an interdisciplinary team that includes the patient's physician, certified diabetes specialists, dieticians, technicians and nursing staff to help patients live full and healthy lives. To learn more about the Sutter Diabetes Center click here.

Since diabetes is a risk factor in the development of cardiovascular disease, good diabetes self-management skills improve the patient's ability to decrease the severity of the disease's process. Good blood glucose control is also important in wound healing following surgery and to help decrease infection rates.

Persons admitted to Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento are often seen by the inpatient diabetes team that consists of a nurse and dietician. This team works with the patient to identify gaps in knowledge, provide education, assess current blood glucose control in a home setting, problem solve with patient to improve glucose control, and review new management guidelines, medications, and equipment use with the patient and or caregiver to help improve the patient's self-management. In addition, the staff will focus on high blood pressure issues as this is another risk factor for cardiovascular disease and renal failure.

In addition to acute care services, the center provides an insulin pump program for adults and adolescents and offers a comprehensive outpatient program and educational support.  Sutter Health also offers diabetes classes and support programs for patients of all ages and their families; for both the newly diagnosed patient and the patient who has been dealing with the disease for some time.   For more information about programs in the Sacramento area, please call: (916) 733-8980, or click here.
