Should Your Family Have Flu Shots?
    Sutter Children's Center, Sacramento

Here are some tips from the Sutter Children's Center, Sacramento.

With flu season just around the corner, that's a smart question to ask. Health officials expect an ample supply of flu vaccine this year and recommend yearly flu shots for adults age 50 and older; pregnant women; children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years; and anyone with a medical condition that raises the risk of pneumonia and other complications. People who work with patients or in a classroom or daycare setting would also be wise to receive a flu shot.

Beyond those guidelines, flu shots are a matter or choice. They do cut your chances of coming down with the flu by about 75 percent, so if you'd rather not risk coming down with the fever, sore throat and aches common with the flu, talk with your doctor, pharmacist or other healthcare provider about getting a flu shot this year.
