Physical & Occupational Therapy
Sutter Children's Center, Sacramento
Helping each child reach his or her full potential is the goal of the physical and occupational therapy programs. Physical and occupational therapists at Sutter Women and Children's have extensive training in all stages of child development, from birth to adolescence. Their expertise in therapy is coupled with an everyday understanding of how to relate to, motivate and challenge children of all ages.
Services are provided to children with neurologic disorders, development delays, congenital anomalies, and loss of abilities due to surgery, injuries or illness.
Each child begins with a complete evaluation and treatment plan, which is shared with referring physicians and the family. Family education and participation and supported and encouraged through training and education.
Physical therapy services include:
- Increase normal movement components and normalize tone to maximize functional capabilities
- Instruct and update families on normal movement, development of range of motion and strengthening activities to ensure ongoing improvement of the child's abilities
- Provide and monitor appropriate bracing and equipment needs
- Increase functional abilities and help normal physical and emotional development through everyday, goal-oriented activities
- Minimize effects of disease, injury, congenital anomalies, disability, developmental delay or sensory deprivation
- Promote independence by improving self-care, play and learning skills appropriate to each child's age
