Pediatric otolaryngologists specialize in problems affecting hearing and speech, and congenital and acquired conditions affecting the physical structure of the sinuses, nasal passages, throat, ears, tonsils, vocal cords and neck. These specialists and their team of nurses, audiologists, speech/language pathologists and technicians provide evaluation and treatment of problems of the head and neck.
A child referred to the Sutter Children's Center, Sacramento first undergoes a complete evaluation to determine the cause and severity of the problem. After diagnosis, a number of treatment options are available, including traditional, laser and endoscopic surgery; medications to combat infections; cochlear implants; hearing aids; and physical and occupational therapy to increase a child's functional abilities. Services are provided on an inpatient basis when needed and through Pediatric Rehabilitation Services.
