    Geriatric Oncology Clinic
    Information by Cancer Type

Patients 75 years old and older have a new advocate on their medical team. Sutter Cancer Center, Sacramento has developed a Geriatric Oncology Clinic to address the needs of seniors with cancer. This new program offers this patient population a comprehensive assessment to address their treatment plan using an innovative assessment tool that was pioneered at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida.

    Goals

    • Identify appropriate level of treatment
    • Provide support services
    • Reduce unnecessary tests and hospital stays
    • Decrease complications and side effects of cancer therapy
    • Offer the patient and their family support, guidance and navigation
    • Improve the patient and caregivers quality of life
    • Serve as a resource for primary care physicians

    The Assessment
The multidimensional assessment reviews the patient’s medical, functional, physiological, social and environmental needs. Based on the findings, the oncologist makes recommendations on the level of care the patient needs, if they are a candidate for treatment and the kind of support services needed to help maintain and improve the patient’s health, function and safety.

    Our Team
Collaboratively, Dr. D’Andre and the geriatric team complete the patient assessments; working together they analyze the data and make recommendations to the patient, the primary care provider and treating oncologist.

Stacy D’Andre, M.D., is a fellowship-trained oncologist who has published
and specifically trained in the area of geriatric oncology.

Laura Brennan, FNP, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who has
special interests in geriatric and palliative care.

Social worker Otishia Hill, MSW, ACSW and financial coordinator Evalina Rivas are both available to assist patients.

Nutritionist Karen Chong is available to assess patients’ nutritional status and provide guidance.

    Referrals
Referrals by a patient’s primary care physician or oncologist can be made to
    Dr. D’Andre by calling (916) 453-3300.
