Excellence in medical care is only part of the Sutter Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program’s success. Also important is the time spent with patients and their families or other caregivers to ensure the patient remains comfortable throughout the transplant procedure. Physicians, nursing staff, social workers and dieticians answer questions and provide access to information patients and families need to understand each step of the process. The team is also supported by consultants in infectious diseases, critical and pulmonary care and other specialty areas, as well as pharmacy staff and onsite pathologists trained and experienced in the unique issues of transplantation.

Transplantation requires a regimen of medications and care procedures even after the patient leaves the hospital. The staff remains available to guide each patient through the healing process and back to a more active life.
