Robotic Surgery for Colorectal Cancer
Sutter Cancer Center Treatments & Services
Colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers today, but also one of the most treatable. Colon resection surgery is usually the most common treatment, and is performed to remove a segment of the colon or rectum. Traditionally, patients undergoing treatment would have open surgery with a large open abdominal incision that extends from the pubic bone to the sternum. Recent advancements in technology now enable surgeons to perform robot-assisted surgical resection as a safe, less invasive way to remove the cancer while preserving bowel function.
The da Vinci® offers many benefits when compared to traditional open or laparoscopic surgery, including significantly less pain, less blood loss, fewer transfusions, less risk of infection, less scarring, shorter hospital stay, shorter recovery time, increased potential for normal bowel function, and better clinical outcomes and cancer cure rates.
