Mammography
Diagnostic Procedures

Mammograms are one of the best breast cancer diagnostic tools used today. They can detect tumors as small as half an inch-that's about the size of George Washington's head on the quarter!
There are two types of mammogram procedures-screening and diagnostic. A screening mammogram is used to look for breast cancer in women who don't have any symptoms or haven't spotted any breast problems. A diagnostic mammogram is used to detect breast cancer in women with breast symptoms or abnormal mammogram results.
To learn more about mammography and what to expect during the examination, visit our Health Information Library and search “mammography”. You can also find additional information at the National Cancer Institute.
Need a Mammogram?
Check with your insurance company to see if they allow you to schedule your screening mammogram before seeing your doctor-most will.
