Sutter Asthma Management Program
Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region

While asthma can limit activities for some, most patients can enjoy normal daily activities by taking an active role in their asthma treatment program. The Sutter Asthma Management Program supports self-care by providing education, regular telephone consultations, and active support to answer questions or address concerns.
Sutter's specially trained asthma specialists help patients understand asthma triggers, what their prescribed medications do and how to take them properly, and steps patients can take to improve their ability to function normally during the day and get a good night's rest. Patients who understand their conditions and treatments are able to function better in daily life and avoid unnecessary emergency room visits.
At the start of the program, patients receive frequent calls to discuss their condition and how treatment is progressing. Once the condition is stabilized, asthma specialists make regular contact to ensure treatment is going well. Should problems arise or symptoms worsen, asthma specialists will maintain more frequent contact until the condition is stable again.
The Sutter Asthma Management Program has maintained Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) Disease-Specific Certification since 2003. To participate in this program patients must have a Sutter Medical Group, Sutter West Medical Group or Sutter Independent Physician. There is no fee to the patient.
